A look back at the devastating floods in Germany

Climate scientists say the recent deadly floods in Europe are an example of extreme weather patterns caused by global warming. The average temperature in this part of the world has risen by 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) in the past 50 years. For many in the affected areas, the floods came as a complete surprise. Al Jazeera’s Step Vaessen looks back.
