Can you imagine life without toilets? World Toilet Day Project by UNICEF Japan NatCom
In this world, 2.5 billion people– 1 in 3 people– do not have access to a toilet.
A lack of toilets remains one of the leading causes of infectious diseases and death among children. UNICEF estimates that 1,600 children※(1,400 children according to the 2014 report) die each day from diarrheal diseases, which are largely preventable with improvements in water, sanitation and hygiene.
As a leading UN agency to promote Water and Sanitation, UNICEF is increasingly emphasizing sanitation, expanding its own programmes of support in countries around the world and advocating for an increased focus on sanitation by governments and funding partners.
