The Lost Girls Of South Africa (Emmy Nominated Documentary)
When the world looked to South Africa for the World Cup in the summer of 2010, the filmmakers of this moving documentary explored the shocking levels of child rape and sexual abuse. In a country where a child is raped every three minutes, and where AIDS continues to spread with epidemic ferocity, we follow four girls aged 11-13 as they struggle to come to terms with the crimes committed against them and fight the social stigma that comes with the abuse.

– A girl born in South Africa has a one in three chance of completing secondary education, and a one in four chance of being raped – Around 200,000 children a year are raped in South Africa.
– 62% of South African secondary schoolboys believe forcing someone to have sex is not an act of violence, and one third of male learners believe girls enjoy rape.
