Japan’s ‘Premium Friday’ Attempts to Stop Death by Overwork (HBO)

Japanese government launched “Premium Friday” last week, a campaign to stimulate consumer spending and combat long working hours by encouraging businesses to let their employees off a couple hours earlier on the last Friday of every month. VICE News witnessed the first-ever Premium Friday, and the government’s efforts to reduce the phenomenon of Karoshi, or death by overwork.
