These Skinks Are on the Brink of Extinction

This little guy is a prehensile-tailed skink at Brandywine Zoo. Native to the Solomon Islands, these creatures are actually the largest of their kind. Their green and olive coloration serves as camouflage in the wild, helping to protect them from enemies. Their defining feature is a prehensile tail, which accounts for half of their overall body length. Sadly, due to deforestation and the pet trade, the future of the species remains under threat.
