Although the Venezuelan migrant crisis was initially met with compassion in neighbouring countries, as the flow continued, tensions over the migrants grew and some neighbours began to impose restrictions. To analyse the response in Latin America and the USA, we speak to Benjamin Gedan, a former South America director on the National Security Council at the White House during the second Obama administration. He is now senior adviser at the Latin American Program at the Wilson Center.
