Extinction Rebellion protests continue for the seventh day in London

Police have started dismantling the banners and tents (left and inset) which eco-activists erected on Waterloo Bridge where they have been camped out for the past week. The climate change protesters have suggested they are finally ready to end their demonstrations after causing chaos in London. This week’s Extinction Rebellion (XR) protests closed key routes through the capital and resulted in at least 831 arrests, with 42 people charged. But the group have since announced they are switching disruptive tactics for political negotiations as they enter a second week of campaigning to have the government declare a climate emergency. Yet many eco-activists are still lining London’s Waterloo Bridge, with photographs of the scene showing police officers forcefully removing them.
