Microplastics found in UK tap water

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called for urgent research into the risks of microplastics to human health, after confirming that tiny fragments are found in tap water.

The WHO analysed 50 scientific studies, which found evidence of microscopic particles in Britain’s water supply – and showed that they can be absorbed by the human body.

Professor Peter Jarvis, one of the report’s authors, says UK drinking water contains between zero and 10 microplastic pieces in every litre.
