Cigarettes–Environmental Impacts & Solutions

In collaboration with the Elk River Alliance, grade 8 and 9 students from Fernie Secondary School participated in two projects. The purpose was to look at the environmental impact of cigarette butts and single-use plastics on the waterways near Fernie. The goal of the project is to use the data and research collected in order to present information to Fernie City Council, in the hopes they will help address the environmental issues surrounding our small community and its impact on the river systems and the Pacific Ocean. Through a grant from the Lieutenant Governor of BC Stewards of the Future initiative, we’ve been able to put together this video presentation.
